~(으)ㄹ지도 모르다:
- Something might possibly happen
- Equivalent to “you don’t know if…”
Usage:
- It might sound rude to someone who’s worried about something
- Can’t use double past tense verbs (갔을지도 몰랐어요)
Tenses:
Adj/Verbs:
- 과거: ~았/었을지도 모르다
- 현재/미래: ~(으)ㄹ지도 모르다
Noun이다:
- 과거: 였을지도/이였을지도 모르다
- 현재: 일지도 모르다

과거:
- A: 우리 이삭이는 조금 늦게 자서 배고팠을지도 몰라요.
(Isaac slept late so I didn’t know if he’d have been hungry.) - V: 내 스마트폰 날씨앱이 바보여서 오늘 비가 왔을지도 몰라요.
(Since my smartphone weather app is an idiot I didn’t know if it would rain today or not.) - N: 유명한 사람이였을지도 몰라.
(I didn’t know he was famous.) - A: 걱정했을지도 모르잖아!
(You don’t know if you’ll be worried!) - V: 외국인이니까 보신탕을 못 먹었을지도 몰라요.
(Since he’s a foreigner, you don’t know if he’ll eat dog soup.) - N: 여기가 서울역이었을지도 몰라요.
(I didn’t know this was Seoul station.)
현재/미래:
- A: 교회 가면 기쁠지도 몰라요.
(You don’t know if you’ll be joyful if you go to church.) - V: 새 학생이 수영을 할지도 모르니까 수영 수업에 가야 겠어요.
(Since you don’t know if the new students know how to swim, you should go to the swimming class.) - N: 임산부일지도 모르니까 뚱뚱한 사람이라고 말하지마!
(You don’t know if she’s pregnant or not, so don’t call her fat!) - A: 한번 만나서는 게으른지 몰라요.
(You don’t know if someone will be lazy after just the first meeting.) - V: 그 남자는 지금 취해서 욕을 할지도 몰라요.
(Since that guy is drunk, you don’t know if he’ll start cursing.) - N: 그 사람은 술고래일지도 몰라요.
(You don’t know if he’s an alcoholic.)
